Frequently Asked Questions
Everything you need to know about wine tasting in Bayeux, Normandy with The Wine Tasting Room.
Are your wine tastings in English?
Yes. All our wine tastings in Bayeux are hosted in English. The wines are French, the explanations are in English. Our tastings are designed especially for international visitors who want to understand French wine without the complicated vocabulary.
Do I need to know anything about wine?
Not at all. No wine knowledge is required. We explain everything in a simple and approachable way, from how to taste wine to understanding French grape varieties, wine regions and appellations.
What happens during the Unbottle France tasting?
Unbottle France is a two-hour journey through French wine. You'll taste six wines from different French wine regions, starting with Champagne, paired with six French cheeses. Along the way, you'll learn how to taste wine and make sense of French wine labels, regions and appellations.
Which French wines will I taste?
The selection can vary, but the idea remains the same: to take you on a journey through France without leaving Bayeux. We choose wines from different French regions and styles so you can discover the diversity of French wine.
Is cheese included in the tasting?
Yes. Our Unbottle France experience includes six French cheeses, selected to accompany the six wines you'll taste.
Can I buy the wines after the tasting?
Yes. If you discover a favourite during your tasting, the wines we serve are available to purchase at The Wine Tasting Room.
Can you ship wine internationally?
Yes, international shipping is available. If you'd like to send some of the wines you discovered during your tasting home, ask us about the shipping options available for your country.
Can I buy the cheeses I taste?
We don't sell cheese at The Wine Tasting Room. Our cheeses are sourced from La Ferme de Bajocasse, a local producer near Bayeux. We'll be happy to tell you more about the cheeses during your tasting.
How long does the wine tasting last?
Our signature Unbottle France tasting lasts approximately two hours.
How many people are in each wine tasting?
We keep our tastings small, with a maximum of 12 guests. This makes the experience more personal and gives everyone the opportunity to ask questions and talk about the wines.
Where is The Wine Tasting Room?
We're located at 1 rue de la Juridiction, in the heart of Bayeux, Normandy, within walking distance of the cathedral, museums and many of Bayeux's main hotels.
Do I need to book in advance?
We recommend booking in advance as each tasting is limited to 12 guests. If places are still available, we may also be able to welcome walk-ins.
Can I book a private or group wine tasting?
Yes. Private and group wine tastings are available on request. For group bookings or special requests, contact us at contact@thewinetastingroom.fr or call +33 (0)2 14 74 87 18.
Is The Wine Tasting Room a wine bar?
No. The Wine Tasting Room is a dedicated wine tasting experience rather than a traditional wine bar. You book a tasting session and explore French wine with your host in a relaxed, educational setting.
I'm visiting Normandy but it's not a wine-producing region. Does a wine tasting still make sense?
Absolutely. Normandy may be better known for cider and Calvados, but our tasting is about discovering France through wine. Instead of travelling between French wine regions, you can explore several of them during one tasting in the centre of Bayeux. It's also a relaxed way to end the day after visiting the D-Day beaches, without having to leave Bayeux again.
